The chart compares the sales of five major mobile phone brands worldwide from 2009 to 2013. In general, there was a stark shift in customer demands with Samsung overtaking Nokia to become the largest seller in the global mobile phone market.
Regarding Samsung and Apple, their market sizes both expanded dramatically albeit with different scopes. By 2013, Samsung had sold 450 million mobile phones, compared with only 250 million units in 2009. Similarly, Apple experienced a fivefold increase in revenue to reach 150 million units after four years. Therefore, it ranked third among the most desired brands.
In contrast, a downward trend was recorded for Nokia and LG. With 440 million devices sold in 2009, Nokia dominated the market. This figure, however, declined every two-year interval to a low of 250 million, making Nokia the second most prevalent brand. Meanwhile, LG's total sales declined by 40 million units, ending the year with 80 million units. Notably, ZTE remained the least popular mobile phone manufacturer with approximately 50 million units sold.
