The diagram illustrates the operation of a domestic central heating system. The process generally involves four stages, beginning with the storage of cold water, which is then heated to maintain a constant flow of hot water for radiators and faucets.
Initially, water enters the house through pipes and is stored in a tank on the roof. The water then flows down to the boiler located on the ground floor of the house. Gas or oil is used to fuel this boiler in order to heat the water passing through it. The hot water is then pumped through a network of pipes to the radiators. Those radiators are equipped with small tubes that distribute the heat throughout each room. Also connected to the pipework is a storage tank which provides hot water for indoor use.
