The maps illustrate the proposed modifications to Islip's town center. In general, Islip is expected to undergo an urban renovation with new residential features and upgraded transportation system. an
At present, the center has a simple infrastructure that meets its residents' basic needs. In the middle of the town, shops line both sides of the main street which leads Southwest to a school and Southeast to a park.
According to projections, the row of shops north of the current main road will be transformed into a bus station, shopping center, car park, and new housing area. Meanwhile, to the south of the mainroad, most amenities will remain the same, including the school and houses. A further provision of accommodation can be expected adjacent to the park, which will be narrowed in half.
Notably, there will be no traffic on the existing mainroad, which will be restricted exclusively to pedestrians. For vehicle access, a dual carriageway will be built around the inner town, requiring the demolition of the current countryside to the North of the town.
